Philippines Celebrates National ICT Month in June

"A DIGITALLY EMPOWERED PHILIPPINES" -  this battle cry formally ushers-in the celebration of  National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month this June. The celebration of National ICT Month is mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1521 (Series of 2008), declaring every month of June as National ICT Month.  

The month-long celebration features events and activities organized by government and the private sector.  For its part, the CICT, together with various industry associations, will be holding the National ICT  Summit, which will feature the official launch of the Philippine Digital Strategy (PDS) 2011-2016 and the launch of a limited edition Commemorative Stamp marking  National ICT Month 2011.  Another major event is the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the establishment  of the National Computer Center (NCC), a component agency of the CICT. Sri Lankan Telecentre: Thimbolketiya Nenasala Project places Ruwanpura treasure on Internet

The Thimbolketiya Nenasala (Telecentre) in Sri Lanka has provided full details pertaining to the environment, history and tourism of the Ratnapura District with the guidance of the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka. This project is further facilitated by the e-Sri Lanka Community Project and the relevant website is www.ecopalace.lk
The site contains a valuable collection of professional notes on historical lore and human and fauna-flora diversity. The site is user friendly with the facility to use through both Sinhala and English languages. Details on lodging within the area, reliable safari transport services including tourist bungalows and campsites can be easily obtained. The designer of the website, Viraj Ekanayake said that in future, this project will be expanded to cover the whole island and and Tamil language facilities will be provided as well. Read MORE


Next Step of Thai Telecentre Movement 
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) of Thailand together with the Research Center of Communication and Development Knowledge Management (CCDKM), and Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) working for Thaitelecentre.org, recently announced their next steps of Thai Telecentre Movement. Aside of projects and service Thai Telecentre and involved organizations provided in the past, in 2011, there are two significant projects initiated by Thai Telecentre Foundation; one is Telecentre Women: The Digital Literacy Campaign and Telecentre.org Academy Consortium of Universities. 
D.Net launched the 1st Smart Room and Computer Lab in Bangladesh

D.Net launched the 1st Smart Room and Computer Lab on June 26, 2011 at Alhajj Jamal Uddin Adorsha High School, Dhamrai, Dhaka. It is jointly implemented by Ministry of Science and ICT, Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh; D.Net and Volunteers Association for Bangladesh, New Jersey Office (VAB-NJ) under Government Private Initiatives on Information Technology Enhanced Education project.
Honourable State Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman, Ministry of Science and ICT, Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh was present as Chief Guest. Among other distinguish guests Local MP Mr. Benjir Ahmed, Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive Director of D.Net, Mr. Munir Hasan, Consultant of MOSICT, Mr. Abul Kalam Azad & Mr. Tarek Barkutullah of Bangladesh Computer Council, Mr. Ajoy Kumar Bose, Coordinator of this project & Alhajj Mr.Jamal Uddin Founder Chairperson of the school were present. Asia-Pacific Telecentre Network (APTN) is a collaborative initiative of the United Nations' Economic and Social Commission for the Asia-Pacific (UN-ESCAP) and  telecentre.org and APTN Secretariat presently being hosted at ICT Agency (ICTA) Sri Lanka. The network will promote innovation and knowledge-sharing amongst Telecentre organizations in the Asia-Pacific region  and it will serve as the focal network or the knowledge hub for communication and information technology in the Asia Pacific region.
