Featured Event Thailand Declared Next APTN Host
Following the Asia-Pacific Telecentre Network (APTN)'s regional planning meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh last December 3, 2011, Thaitelecentre.org was recently declared the next country host of the network. Thaitelecentre.org, which has a very active telecentre movement and receives strong government support through the country's Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, takes over hosting duties from the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA). It assume its role as host effective February 2012. Aside form Thailand, the APTN committee is composed of 5 other core member countries: Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, and the Fiji Islands.

| | Philippine Digital Literacy for Women Campaign (PDLWC) is launching the search for 100 Inspiring Stories The Philippine Digital Literacy for Women Campaign (PDLWC) is launching the search for 100 Inspiring Stories in a bid to inspire countless women with stories of transformation and success. A total of 100 stories from women all over the country will be gathered and recognized before the year ends. Stories can be submitted by any woman, regardless of whether or not she has undergone training through the PDLWC. Stories should be about women benefiting from the opportunities made possible by digital literacy and whose lives have been transformed for the better by information and communication technology (ICT). | Amazing Thailand The national tourism slogan goes "Thailand-Truly Amazing". And it's true. But it's not just tourism in Thailand that fits this bill. In just a few years the telecentre movement in Thailand has blossomed into something "truly amazing" Thailand is the only country in SE Asia that was neither colonized nor "communized". The country was spared the liberation struggles that befell much of the region in the 1960's and 70's. As a consequence, its patterns of development have not been deformed nor confounded by external colonial or ideological systems. Although Thailand is an "Emerging Market" country, and a mature one at that, its ways of doing things don't fit neatly into anyone's box. The telecentre movement in the country reflects this. It is a coordinated national movement rather than a patchwork of different, unrelated start-ups. | D.Net Bangladesh Fund Raising Event 2012 D.Net and Volunteers Association for Bangladesh, New Jersey Chapter (VAB.NJ), USA organised the Fund Raising Event titled "Givings to Innovations in Education" to support Computer Literacy (CLP) and Smart Class Room (SCR) Programs, implemented by D.Net. It supports to benefit the underprivileged youth through access to ICT-led education. Dr. Mohammad Farooque and Mrs. Shirin Ali, Volunteers of VAB-NJ, USA and Mr. Ajoy Kumar Bose, Coordinator of the project organize the event. The event was held at La Vita Hall, Lakeshore Hotel, Dhaka on January 09, 2012. Fueled by a few nonresident Bangladeshis' passion and commitment to contribute to their motherland's journey from poverty to prosperity, CLP was started about a year ago with the goal of "Empowering underprivileged youth in Bangladesh through computer literacy".
